Microcement has become an increasingly popular solution in modern bathrooms, and we have developed a frame and drain grate specifically designed for this material. Sun 150 represents a technical and aesthetic innovation in the market, where form and function go hand in hand.
This new solution has been developed in close collaboration with experts from Centro Kakel & Klinker, specialists in building ceramics and tiles, and Sika, a leading company in adhesives and sealing products. The drain grate and its accompanying frame, made of adhesive-friendly ABS plastic, are designed to address the specific challenges of using microcement. This includes both adhesion and sealing to the floor drain, which are essential for ensuring a safe and long-lasting installation in wet areas.
A rising demad for seamless surfaces
The background for developing this unique frame and drain grate stems from the demand for seamless surfaces and the lack of a drain grate that fits tightly within microcement.
Microcement, also known as microconcrete or microtopping, has gained a strong foothold in modern interiors. Its unique aesthetic—seamless, industrial, and with a natural finish—makes it popular in everything from private bathrooms to commercial projects. The material is applied directly onto existing tiles, concrete, or other surfaces with a thin layer, creating a sleek look without visible grout lines.
For those seeking a new style or simply a change without a full renovation, this can be both a functional and aesthetic choice. However, Purus acknowledges that aesthetic solutions should never come at the expense of a bathroom’s technical standards. Older bathrooms and drains should always be assessed for renovation to ensure they comply with current wet room regulations, as outlined by SINTEF.
“Purus has now developed a frame with a Ø150 mm grate designed for microcement. The development is based on clear specifications from Centro and Sika. The circular frame design not only saves time during installation but also ensures the final sealing of the surface. No other players on the market have solved and tested this for microcement in the way we have now done together with Centro and Sika’s system,” explains Håkan Fridvall, Product Manager at Purus AB

The Microcement Grate Sun 150 is designed to balance both function and aesthetics. Its round shape and brushed surface blend seamlessly into modern bathroom interiors, while its technical construction ensures efficient water flow and long-term durability. The grate is made of 3 mm stainless steel (1.4301) and is available in three different colors—steel, brass (PVD), and black (PVD). This color selection allows craftsmen and interior specialists to choose a finish that perfectly complements each project.
The Microcement Grate Sun 150 comes in two versions, with and without cutouts, allowing for different installation needs. The frame, made of adhesive-friendly ABS plastic, ensures optimal adhesion and minimizes the risk of moisture penetration. With a build height of just 8 mm, the frame provides a discreet yet effective transition between the microcement and the drain.
“There are many demanding aspects of our industry that can be challenging both ergonomically and time-wise. Here, microcement offers a simpler solution. A major advantage is that it can be applied directly over an old tiled floor. With just a few millimeters of microcement and a protective lacquer, you achieve a modern new surface layer without the need for complete demolition,” says Magnus Danielsson, Product Manager at Centro Kakel & Klinker AB.

The Purus Microcement Grate Sun 150, with its specially designed ABS frame, provides craftsmen with a secure and straightforward solution to meet these challenges.
A grind protection can also be used during installation to create a smooth transition between the microcement and the grate. This helps achieve a tight, aesthetically pleasing finish while it is preventing lacquer or microcement from seeping into the grate slot.
